Post-Apocalyptic Jukebox
Description
“We are here to bring the darkness out into the light. Skeleton Swing & Gothic Jive.” In a dark cemetery, covered in shadow and fog, there is a nightclub. Inside this dimly lit club, denizens of a bygone era stroll about with cocktails grasped in their claw-like hands. If Dr. Mabuse ran the nightclub from the Hunger, and hired Bauhaus and Cab Calloway as resident performers, this would be the spot. Past the front lounge, hidden far in the recesses of this sanctuary of lost souls and vagabonds, a skeletal band channeling the spirits of New Orleans hot jazz and early Ministry records plays swinging dirge intended to wake the dead. Marquis & the Rhythm Howlers are the newest addition to the Dead 2 Me Records roster. The band hails from Los Angeles, the home of the American horror film and Bela Lugosi’s final resting place. They were brought to the attention of label co-owner Mr. Automatic by way of Freshly Squeezed’s own Nick Hollywood. The mix of Tom Waits influences, classic early jazz numbers, and 80’s industrial and new wave covers quickly caught their attention, and they agreed to release the record through the Chicago-based Neo-Vintage label.
